Cincinnati Reds Take Centerville Native Jensen

Cincinnati Bearcats own Dan Jensen was selected in the 20th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by none other than the Cincinnati Reds.  Native to Centerville, Ohio, Jensen will more than likely start his career near his hometown with the Reds minor league affiliate, Dayton Dragons.

"It’s such a dream come true,” said Jensen. ” (Reds area scout) Brad Meador called me before the 20th round and told me the Reds were going to take me this round. It’s just a dream come true.”"

After leading the Bearcats with a 3.11 earned run average and 87 strikeouts, Jensen will take his 6 foot 8 inch frame into the big leagues.  This season, Jensen held opponents to a mere .257 batting average in his 89.2 innings.  He was also named Big East Pitcher of the Week after his complete game, 11 strikeout performance against the Hoyas of Georgetown.

Jensen joins a growing list of Bearcats Alumni who are currently tearing it up in the Major Leagues.  Recent call ups of Josh Harrison (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Tony Campana (Chicago Cubs) will put Jensen in line to face some former Bearcats in the National League Central Division race.

With the recent woes at the starting pitcher position for the Cincinnati Reds this season, Jensen could find himself in the Majors sooner than later.  Given the talent pool that the Bearcats have sent to the Majors in recent years, we look forward to seeing great things from Jensen in the near future.
