File the Petition… I’m Changing My Name

Picture this… Doctor hands over to a new couple their handsome and strong new baby boy.

"Nurse asks, What are you going to name him?”"

In seconds, both parents cheerfully think of their favorite football team’s beloved coach… Brian Kelly!

After leading the University of Cincinnati to a historic come from behind victory of West Virginia, and capture back to back Big East titles, these parents are ecstatic about their name choice and the thought that one day, their son could play quarterback for the mighty Bearcats and Coach Kelly.

A month later, after a 34-6 overall record, 2 BCS Bowl Bids, 2 Big East Titles and a rejuvenation of the UC Football fan base, Coach Kelly bolts for the University of Notre Dame, leaving the city in utter disbelief.

I read an article today about two parents who named their child after former Ohio State Buckeyes coach, Jim Tressel – who shocked the world and resigned on Memorial Day after failing to adhere to NCAA rules and report illegal activities that some of his players had been involved in.

I would like to hear from readers that are named or have named their children after athletes or coaches that have spurned their favorite teams.  Would you consider a name change, or like these two Buckeye faithfuls, “Have no regrets.”
