The Akron Zips will visit the Bearcats on September 17th in what should be an absolute beating. After posting a dismal 1-11 record last year and losing to the 4-7 FCS (Formally Division 1-AA) Gardner-Webb, Akron looks to break out of their 5 straight seasons slump of posting a losing record.  Unfortunately, Bearcats fans will have to suffer through this snoozer that will be over before half time.

Let’s take a look at the statistics for a second, just to show how bad Akron really was last year.

  • Passing Yards per game – 155.1 (108th ranked out of 120 FBS Schools)
  • Rushing Yards per game – 113.4 (101st ranked)
  • Point For per game – 15.6 (118th ranked)
  • Points Against per game – 35.1 (106th ranked)

The only bright spot on the Akron squad was their Senior (now graduated) Running Back, Alex Allen.  He rushed for 877 yards and 8 Touchdowns.  His backup, Nate Burney (who was also a Senior) rushed for an additional 467 yards.  This season, Sophomore Jawon Chisholm will get his shot to take over, but he has yet to rush one time.

The Bearcats will terrorize Chisholm and Zippos with one of the nation’s best rush defenses. On the other side of the ball, Collaros and Pead will have monster games to pad stats towards the Maxwell Award.

Prediction:  The Bearcats will unload the cannon 7 times for a 52-7 romp over the Zips and start the season 3-0!
