Props to the UC Student Section

The Cincinnati Bearcats’ official website reported yesterday that student section has sold out their allotted 3,000 season tickets. This is the third straight year that the students have done this and the update comes on the heels of news a couple of weeks ago that season tickets sales are down 22% from last year (roughly 12,500 vs. 16,000). Matt over at Down the Drive provides a great rebuttal to the Enquirer’s naturally negative piece and talks some Bearcats fans off the ledge. We have to take these numbers into perspective for a moment and remember that while Cincinnati is one of the most historic programs in college football, they have only been playing REAL modern football for just over 5 years, maybe a decade and a half if you count Conference USA play. The Bearcats football program is in its infancy when compared to national powerhouses like Ohio State, Texas, and USC.

Getting back to the UC students, they are the ones that are really going to grow the program going forward and it’s very encouraging that student season tickets have sold out yet again. Since joining an AQ conference and the dreamlike Brian Kelly years, these season tickets have been in very high demand and, despite the 4 – 8 2010 campaign, this year is no exception. As I mentioned, Cincinnati football is very young and as these students who seem to back the program regardless of record graduate and remain Bearcats fans in their lives after college, it will only help the Bearcats’ fanbase as a whole strengthen and grow. So hats off to UC students!
