Schaffer to Fans: “Don’t Give Up on Us!”

This was a great message from J.K. Schaffer to casual Bearcats football fans but for diehards (like me), this really didn’t mean anything. I realize that the defense has some issues and that they should be corrected throughout the season, but when people claim to be burning their season tickets and calling for Butch Jones’ head after a loss to an SEC school, that’s just ignorant. It was game two of the season with ten to go. If those fans who jumped off the bandwagon after last Saturday can’t enjoy watching these kids play, then I hope they stay off for good.

Tuesday Lunch: Defending the Defense

Coach Jones took a lot of questions in Tuesday’s press conference but didn’t provide a lot of answers. It’s okay, coaches are expected to say ‘coachy’ things like ‘we need to improve’, ‘we need better focus, stuff like that where he doesn’t get into specifics. I also don’t expect him to single out specific players (cough: Frey) or coaches (coach: Coombs, Banks, Jancek). But if we see the kind of breakdowns in the secondary that we saw at Tennessee the rest of the season (and all of 2010), there needs to be some major changes made on the staff.

Recruiting

Many Schools Still Involved with Andrew White

Some interesting notes from Jeff over at Bearcat Talk. Now that Cincinnati has finally put together a great winning season as well as a top 25 recruiting class, the Bearcats are poised to create stability and many more great seasons in the future. Mick Cronin and crew have been in this kid’s ear for a while and if they want to accomplish their goals, they’ll need to land an athlete like Andrew White. Here’s to hoping he signs on with the red and black!

NCAA Football 12 Predicts So-So Week for Big East in Week 3

Big East Coast Bias went the video game route to find predictions for Week 3. Remember, this was done by a bunch of computer designer nerds, not BECB. I’m not sure how Louisville is going to score 34 points on Kentucky when they just barely surpassed that mark in two games against Murray State and FIU. UK might be bad, but they aren’t giving up 34 poitns to the Cardinals. Another one, Maryland nearly doubling up West Virginia. That just isn’t going to happen. The Mountaineers always play stout on defense and boast a very good offense of their own. It might be a little close but WVU still comes out on top.

Report: Oklahoma wants out and Big 12 is ‘done’

Oklahoma and Texas are the two major powers in the Big XII. They really have been the poster childs of the conference ever since the SWC days. But as the years have gone by, the Longhorns have taken more of that image little by little each year. With the Longhorn Network, this rift, like with the other Big XII members, has grown sharply. If there was ever a viable destination for the Sooners it would be the PAC-12. At least, that’s the best option for them. I’d quite frankly like them in the Big East.
