Akron Game Halftime Notes
By Chris Bains
What I’m liking
- Bearcats came out fast in this one scoring on their opening possession.
- The offensive line is continuing its dominating play from the Tennessee game. This area of weakness is quickly becoming an area of strength for Cincinnati.
- On the opposite side of the ball, Derek Wolfe and the defensive line have been manhandling Akron’s front five. Wolfe alone has a forced fumble and a sack.
- Loved seeing Dom Battle with the pick-6. He definitely deserves that after last season’s knee injury that sidelined him for the entire year.
- The turnovers. Forced fumbles by Giordano and Wolfe and interceptions by Battle, Schaffer, and Cheatham.
- Cincinnati is now +12 on the season for turnover margin.
- Incorporated some true freshman with the first-team players today- Dwight Jackson, Alex Chisum, RDA, Poteat so far. Should see more 2nd/3rd stringers after halftime.
What’s making me stab myself in the eyes
- 2nd blocked field goal in as many games.
- Matt at DtD (@downthedrive for you tweeps) caught this. Offensive tackles are tipping plays. If a foot is back, it’s a pass. If the feet are even, it’s a run. Looks like Tennessee’s defensive lineman were right.
