John Law’s about to lay down the law? Get it? Sorry couldn’t resist. Anyways, Cincinnati’s recruiting drought is over as the 19th commitment has finally cast his lot with the Bearcats yesterday on his visit to Nippert Stadium. I guess that 59 – 14 drubbing over Akron really swayed his position to give Coach Jones a verbal on the spot. Law is from Georgia where coach John Jancek has absolutely been cleaning up on the recruiting trail for the Bearcats for over a year now. You can basically thank him for the Ralph David Abernathy, Alex Chisum, and Silverberry Mouhon commitments has his connections there while coaching at the University of Georgia is working wonders for UC’s talent base.

Overview

Law is short in stature and fills out the middle linebacker position nicely. He’s a thickly built player at a little under 6’0″ and upwards of 225 lbs and seems to carry the weight very well. This doesn’t seem to slow him down, though, as he’s have pretty good front end speed. The biggest advantage Law has is his size and he throws it around well abusing defenders by merely pushing them out of the way. This includes offensive lineman who even seem to have trouble with him.

Outlook

In 2012, Cincinnati’s linebacker situation will be the best it has been in years. Depth is growing there throughout 2011 and by 2012, Bomar, Blair, Tentman, Jackson, Temple, and Mason will all be very experienced players in the system. That’s why I see Law taking a redshirt when he steps on campus. Nothing against him but jumping those six vets ahead of him will be tough. Plus, I think of any linebacker in the 2012 class so far, Lester Liston has the best shot of seeing playing time as a true freshman at least at this juncture.
