Awesome news yesterday out of Milwaukee and it didn’t involve Miller shutting down their breweries. Amidst the analysis and reanalysis of Cincinnati’s football and basketball losses on Saturday, Cincinnati Bearcats volleyball defeated Notre Dame for their first Big East title in school history. And they did so in dominating fashion, downing the Irish in straight sets for the thirteenth time this season. Head coach Reed Sunahara did a phenomenal job with his squad that was missing Stephanie Niemer who graduated last year and led the Bearcats to a Big East regular season title in 2010. UC started off the season slow, clearly adjusting to the loss of Neimer, losing 3 of 4 in the Northern Illinois Tournament. But since the Big East/Big Ten Challenge, the Bearcats had won 18 of 20 games and twelve straight including the win over the Irish yesterday.

The Bearcats will have a week off to spend time with their families over the Thanksgiving holiday but will host Ohio on November 25th and Miami (Oh) on November 26th. They will then head off to the NCAA Tournament with the automatic Big East bid and likely a high seed.

If you want to congratulate Reed himself you can send him a quick tweet here. He’s a cool dude and I’m sure will appreciate your kind words.
