Former UC Runningback Jameel Poteat Lands At Stony Brook

Perhaps the final chapter of the Jameel Poteat saga has been revealed as the former UC runningback has decided to transfer to FCS Stony Brook. Poteat will not have to sit out the 2013 season because he is transferring from a FBS to a FCS program, unlike if he had moved to another school in Cincinnati’s subdivision.

The focus on the former Bearcat began in the middle of last season when a very real position battle ensued between he, Tion Green, and Deionte Buckley at runningback. Senior George Winn was the incumbent at the starting position but the backup role, and the player who would have an inside track to start in 2013, was up for grabs. For whatever reason – relationship with the coaching staff, the coaching change, simply being overtaken in practice – Poteat started to lose ground in that race to Green and Buckley. Then after the Belk Bowl the former four-star runningback seemed to have had enough and announced his transfer from Cincinnati.

The landing spot at the time was theorized to some place near his home in Pennsylvania, perhaps Pitt or Penn State. But after a few months of little-to-no news it seems he is heading to Stony Brook University in New York. As always, best of luck to the young man and hopefully he doesn’t exact some revenge on Cincinnati when the Bearcats host the Seawolves to open the 2014 season.
