That was fast.

Following up on the teaser from Whit Babcock, ESPN’s Brett McMurphy broke the news that the unnamed opponent to be added to Cincinnati’s football schedule is in fact the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

This addition makes sense. Just one month ago Babcock signed Nebraska to a home-and-home on the basketball side. The Cornhuskers will visit Cincinnati in the upcoming season with the Bearcats returning the favor in 2014-15. Because of the obvious disparity in the strength of both programs, this could have been construed as a better deal for the Cornhuskers. But it sounds like things have evened out a bit with Cincinnati having the opportunity to host a national power in Nebraska.

The timing built into this deal is just comical. UC will travel to Lincoln in 2020 and the Cornhuskers will visit Cincinnati in 2025, 12 fucking years from now! Tommy Tuberville will be 70, Mick Cronin will be 53, and I will probably be a middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a handful of little brats running around by then. Or a divorced billionaire time-machine tycoon if everything in the new few years goes as planned.

Either way, it will be curious to see what the state of the Bearcats football program will look like by the time Nebraska comes to town or if the Cornhuskers will even make the return trip at all.
