New Turf at Nippert Stadium Nearing Completion

After years of watching the condition of turf deteriorate to the point where it was no longer a suitable and arguably safe playing surface, the University of Cincinnati wisely opted to replace it this Summer. For the last several weeks, you’ve probably seen snapshots of the project on an almost daily basis thanks to the hard work of Tommy G. Now it looks like most of the construction crews have moved on and the surface is nearly ready to go.

The end result is straight up gorgeous.

Gone are the red numbers along the sidelines, replaced now with white numbers and a black outline. Admittedly this bothered me at first but it took me about three seconds to get over it. What I love about the new turf is that a) it no longer looks like someone sprayed tar on the surface and b) the endzones are no longer warping to a mutated shade of red. But seriously the renovation looks amazing. I absolutely love the black lettering in each endzone and while I’m not big on the conference as a whole, the AAC logos fit well on the field. Overall, just more great work from the Whit Babcock-led UC athletic department.

Finally, a shoutout to Michael Flanagan for taking that pic this morning and tweeting it out. Nice aerial shot, sir!
