Forget that the Tommy Tuberville is coaching the Bearcats and this is UC’s first season under his watchful eye. Forget that Cincinnati has one of the strongest returning teams of any in college football. Forget that overall expectations with this year’s iteration of the Bearcats that haven’t been higher since before the 2010 season.
Forget all of that.
Know this – there is no single more important storyline heading into Cincinnati’s upcoming football season than whether or not UC President Santa Ono will crowd surf in the student section at Nippert Stadium this fall. Let me catch you up.
Earlier this offseason Santa Ono teamed up with Rally Cats to garner interest from the Twitterverse in him crowd surfing across the student section at a football game this season. Without question, his proposition was met with a resounding “YES”.

Needing just 100 RT (retweets of the original message), Rally Cats and Ono collected over double that. Clearly interest is there to see the UC president hoisted from the field and up through the student section sometime this season. But will Ono go through with it? History says he will.
If you recall the vivacious university president was so bold as to wager his illustrious head of hair last season on the success of the Bearcats. As you probably remember, the bet last time was that if Cincinnati’s football or basketball team went undefeated through their first 10 games, he would shave his head. While Butch Jones’ team wasn’t up to the task, Mick Cronin decided it was in everyone’s best interest to have another hairless person walking around the Lindner Center other than himself and Darren Savino. So he led the Bearcats in a romp of the Marshall Thundering Herd, picking up his tenth win to open up the 2012-13 season, and Ono’s hair was as good as gone.
Even though at the end of the day it was for a good cause, if he’s willing to shave his head what’s to say Ono won’t do a little crowd surfing at Nippert this year? That’s the logic, anyways. Hopefully Santa delivers this gift to us sometime this fall.
