The Bearcats’ 2014 recruiting class is coming together nicely but the last piece of the puzzle to really elevate it to the level of “spectacular” has been landing forward Donte Grantham. He’s a consensus 4-star recruit out of West Virginia who would go a long way to upgrading the talent and depth of Cincinnati’s front court. Throughout the course of his recruitment the Bearcats have consistently been among the favorites to land him and UC even appeared on Grantham’s most recent list of top-3 schools along with Michigan and Clemson.
By and large it seemed like Mick Cronin had as good a chance as either of those programs to land the highly-touted forward.
But now, per Bearcat Journal’s Chad Brendel, it appears Cincinnati has backed off Grantham.
Hearing from a source that Cincinnati is no longer recruiting Donte Grantham.

Unfortunately the writing has been on the wall with the 4-star recruit. In the last few weeks, Michigan has gained more and more momentum in Grantham’s recruitment. They offered him on his visit to Ann Arbor on September 9th and have slowly but surely become the favorites to land him. Yesterday, 247 Sports almost unanimously predicted Grantham would be a Wolverine after that chance being basically a coin flip previously.
While that’s just speculation on 247 Sports’ part, it’s likely supported by strong evidence they’re hearing from Grantham’s camp. Plus with Brendel reporting that UC has backed off of him, that makes me believe that the recruit is basically a Wolverine at this point. Maybe I’m getting a little ahead of myself but what we do know for sure is that Grantham won’t be coming to Cincinnati.
