It wasn’t a dominating performance but the Bearcats didn’t exactly lose either. I guess that’s something to celebrate. I mean they are 1-0 but Cincinnati’s win over the NC Central Eagles was just “OK” tonight. And I feel like we’ll be saying that more that a few times this season. Look, this team is still learning who they are. That’s what happens when half of the roster is made up of true freshman. It’s just a way of life when there’s that much turnover on the team.

In many ways, the Bearcats are simply finding themselves. It’s clear at this point that Mick Cronin hasn’t found a starting five that he’s comfortable with. After all, he subbed out his starting point guard GeLawn Guyn about a minute and a half into the game for Jeremiah Davis. Quite honestly, JDIII should have been inserted from the onset. The offense just flows better with him at the point and even with true freshman Troy Caupain running the show. I have the utmost respect for Guyn’s defensive abilities but when it comes to the PG position, offense reigns and Davis provides more of that for the Bearcats.

Like I mentioned this wasn’t a dominating performance out of Cincinnati. Quite honestly, for the amount of turnover the Bearcats have undergone this year I will be satisfied with wins like these. Of course that doesn’t mean I won’t be cursing when UC is up by 2 over Appalachian State in a couple of days but still, with Mick Cronin’s defense, the ‘Cats should win more than a few games this season. If those games happen to be ugly in nature, I’ll just have to live with that because at the end of the day a win’s a win. In the eyes of the NCAA tournament selection committee, that’s what matters.
