Cincinnati Bearcats Will Play Home-And-Home Series With The Miami Hurricanes

One of the underlying goals for the UC athletic department to compliment the Nippert Stadium renovation was to sign a marquee opponent at home for the inaugural season in 2015. That opponent appears to be the Miami Hurricanes.

Whit Babcock really couldn’t have aligned this more perfectly. According to the Miami Herald, the Bearcats will visit Miami next season with the Canes returning the favor in 2015. This is ideal for UC as they will be playing all of their home games in 2014 at Paul Brown Stadium in anticipation for the Nippert renovation the following year. There have been rumors that UC’s homer with FCS Stony Brook in 2014 is being moved and it appears a visit to South Florida will be its replacement.

But I’m not worried at all about trading a home game for an away game.

For all intents and purposes, I’m calling 2014 a “lost season” attendance-wise as Cincinnati scrambles to add the new press box to their football stadium. The key here is that the Bearcats will be bringing in a big-name opponent to Cincinnati in 2015. Expect ticket sales to sell out in a flurry and this game to be broadcast on a major network, further showcasing UC’s renovated Nippert stadium to the country. Additionally this helps on the recruiting trail as Eddie Gran, who is already adept at cultivating the rich grounds around Miami, Florida, will be able to visit prospects during the trip and see the Bearcats first-hand. I’d anticipate more than a few high schools players from that area verbally committing to Cincinnati as a result of this game.

All in all, another excellent series signed by Babcock and his administration!

11.19.2013 UPDATE: Per the Enquirer’s Tom Groeschen, we have official dates for each game.

11.19.2013 UPDATE 2: Cincinnati has in-fact cancelled their game with Stony Brook in 2014 to make room for this series. Guess we won’t be seeing the return of Jameel Poteat after all.

Cincy game vs. Stony Brook was to be Aug. 30th of 2014. The U game will be Oct. 3rd of 2014. How cancelling SB game made room for the U game isn’t clear to me, but irregardless,I’m glad…good job Witt.

The Miami game in 2014 is actually the week of October 11th, but I get your point. I think what happened was Cincinnati originally had a bye on October 11th. But by adding the Hurricanes, UC then had 1 too many non-conference games. As a result, Stony Brook had to go. Now that there’s two open slots at the beginning of the season, we might even seen a game against an ACC team in week 1 or 2.
