Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down This [Pressbox]!

Nippert Stadium renovation cam still shot, Jan. 22, 2014. The West Press Box is virtually gone at this point.

Reagan said it better than I did.

Nonetheless, progress continues to be made on the demolition of the structure formerly known as the John and Dorothy Hermanies Pressbox, which lined the West side of Nippert Stadium from 1992-2013.  This, of course, will make way for the massive, hulking, new and improved club seats/luxury suites/press level, which will open in August of 2015.

According to the latest update from GoBearcats.com, the old structure should be completely gone by the end of the month, and judging from the construction cam, work is right on schedule.  You can see that as of now, the above-ground structure of the old pressbox is pretty much gone.  All that remains is for crews to dig out the old groundwork and utilities.  Holes in the stands are already visible in the Southwest corner where new support columns will go in.  The same will be done on along the sideline once existing columns and underground utilities are gone.

You can keep up with the construction via a live webcam, HERE.

Be sure to check back later this week for a very detailed and in-depth breakdown of the New Nippert, including exact seating capacity (you will be surprised).  Every detail that is publicly available will be included.
