The Cincinnati Bearcats were dinged in the latest Coaches Poll just like they were in the AP Poll after having lost by a single point to the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. UC fell out of the top-10 to 12th in the Coaches Poll, receiving 460 votes.

I guess I shouldn’t be nit picking about whether or not the Bearcats are in the top-10 or not. That doesn’t really matter at this time of the season. What does is prospective tournament seeding. In all likelihood Cincinnati isn’t getting a #1 seed, unless the likes of Wichita State and Arizona completely fall apart over the next few weeks. So UC should be gunning for a 2 or 3 seed to place themselves on the opposite side of the bracket from the 1 seed. This would help Cincinnati avoid the top team in their quadrant for as long as possible only aiding them in making a deep run in the tournament.

As such, the Bearcats should probably want to shoot for a ranking between 5th and 13th. That would be ideal for a UC squad that is very top-heavy, struggling at times to get contributions from players not named Justin Jackson and Sean Kilpatrick this late in the season. That run starts Saturday at noon as Cincinnati attempts to rebound against UConn on ESPN.
