After their wins over Memphis and Rutgers in the past week, the Cincinnati Bearcats have climbed to 12th in the latest Coaches Poll, receiving 447 votes. That is up 3 spots from last week and, interestingly enough, is the first time all season UC is higher with in the Coaches than the AP Poll. They were of course listed 12th in that one.

Again, being listed 12th or 13th or 15th or 8th or 22nd really doesn’t matter right now. The rankings in and of themselves are pretty insignificant. What does matter is how they align with how the Selection Committee tabs UC next Sunday when they release the complete NCAA Tournament bracket. Realistically, this isn’t a team that has the depth or firepower offensively to make a deep run when March Madness kicks off. They’ll need some help from the Committee by giving them a 2 or 3 seed and placing them opposite on the 1 seed in their quadrant of the bracket. To accomplish that the Bearcats need to get themselves in the #5 – #13 range. They’re already on the lower end of that and a nice run in the AAC Tournament, say to the finals, will get them into the top-10 and set them up nicely for favorable seeding come next Sunday.
