UConn Beats Memphis, Cincinnati Bearcats Will Face Huskies In AAC Semifinals

The UConn Huskies put a beat down on the Memphis Tigers on their home court tonight. Shabazz Napier looked sharp and forward Niels Giffey was deadly from three. The Tigers had nary an answer for either of them and as a result were drubbed by the Huskies.

Hopefully UConn got all of their hot shooting out of the way tonight because Cincinnati will play them Friday night at 9:30 pm on ESPN/ESPN2. UC of course took down UCF earlier in the quarterfinals. The Bearcats and Huskies split their season series, with each team win their respective home game. In both contests Cincinnati played outstanding defense, holding Napier to just 10.5 points per game. GeLawn Guyn was essentially solely responsible for locking down the senior guard and hopefully UC can get a similar performance out of him tomorrow night. The difference will be Cincinnati’s offense. They must continue to get strong performances from everyone not named Sean Kilpatrick. The issue in the last game, a UC loss, was that Killa put up 16 points but no other player had more than 8. If Justin Jackson, Titus Rubles, and others can step up, UC will emerge victorious.

The main story line tonight, whether we like it or not, will be the comparison between Napier and Kilpatrick. It’ll happen whether we like it or not. UConn’s senior guard won the AAC Player of the Year award despite Kilpatrick contributing more to UC’s offense and rising to the occasion against the conference’s best teams. Tomorrow night’s commentators will no doubt jam that down our throats throughout the game. So prepare yourselves appropriately.
