The final major media outlet, the Associated Pressed, has announced their All-American team and Sean Kilpatrick has been named a first teamer. The NCAA considers the AP along with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the United States Basketball Writers Association, and Sporting News when announcing their official team. Here is where Kilpatrick landed on each:

Based on those media outlets, Cincinnati’s senior guard was awarded 10 points towards his official ranking. The NCAA applies a point system to the process of determine the teams. A player is given three points if they are on the 1st-Team of any of those four media outlets, two points if they’re on the 2nd-Team, and one point if they are on the 3rd-Team.

Unfortunately, this means that Kilpatrick will not be a NCAA 1st-Team All-American. His 10 points trail Doug McDermott and Jabari Parker (both consensus first teamers with 12 points) as well as Nick Johnson, Shabazz Napier, and Russ Smith (each with 11 points). That drops SK just on the outside looking in as a 2nd-Team All-American. Still, even though the UC guard wasn’t a consensus first teamer, he was a consensus All-American and the first Bearcat to be named to any team since Steve Logan in 2002. That’s an honor that should be praised and is but another accomplishment in Kilpatrick’s outstanding career at Cincinnati.
