The national championship game was played last night and marked the end to the 2013-14 college basketball season (/tear). As such, the final Coaches Poll has been released. After their opening round loss to the 12 seed Harvard Crimson in the NCAA Tournament, Cincinnati fell to from 14th to 22nd in the last one of the year, receiving 126 votes. This is the first time since the 2011-12 season that UC earned a spot in the top-25 of a final Coaches Poll. Additionally, their slotting of 22nd seems appropriate for a team that saw their season end with a dud. It’s not like the Bearcats were going to rise in the poll after exiting the tourney so early.

As a side note, this latest and final Coaches Poll illustrates perfectly why this is a complete joke in the world of collegiate basketball. Not unexpectedly the UConn Huskies finished 1st in the poll after hoisting the national championship trophy last night. They received 30 1st place votes. Another vote went to Kentucky, who lost to Connecticut in the title game not 24 hours ago. If that weren’t ridiculous enough, now 7th ranked Wichita State received the only other 1st place vote. They were of course eliminated by Kentucky way back on March 23rd in the round of 32. Yep.

I’m not sure what these coaches are thinking, or the interns for these coaches most likely, but nothing showcases the absurdity of this poll more than that. Thanks for once again proving how ludicrous you are, Coaches Poll.
