“Absolutely,” Kilpatrick said. “The schools, there’s so much revenue coming in. You have these players’ jerseys in the stores and you make posters of these guys and they don’t even get a share of what’s going on. The least you can do is give them a share when they leave or graduate.”
Agree to an extent. If this happens, universities and the NCAA need to better regulate payments from boosters. Which does happen (read below).
Despite the turmoil in getting to Philadelphia (and since), the Bearcats managed to bounce back for an 11-5 victory on Saturday even though Ian Happ missed that game as well due to “disciplinary reasons.”
I can’t imagine a project to make Fifth Third a first class arena coming in at less than 80 or 90 million dollars, which is out of the budget. It can be made a better basketball venue for much less than that by keeping the configuration as is, but with permanent seating in the lower bowl for 40 or 50 million, but that won’t work either IMO. Renovating Fifth Third on the cheap is a half measure, just like building Fifth Third as a combination Basketball Arena/Rec Center/Athletic Department Hub was a half measure to start with. It doesn’t fix the problem, it just makes it livable for a bit longer.
Claim to fame: The Bearcats went 33-6 under Brian Kelly from 2007-09. That included a 12-0 regular season in 2009 before Kelly left for Notre Dame.
The proposed $12-million fee would help finance upgrades in the 11-year-old stadium. This season the Eagles are expected to add new video boards and 1,600 new seats. The contract also proposes raising Temple’s rent to $3-million a year, from $1.8-million. (Under the agreement, the Eagles would still keep all parking and concession fees.)
On the night, Cueto went for a strong seven-inning performance, surrendering just five hits and four walks in accordance with his six strikeouts. In what has unfortunately become a trend, he got zero run support. For his seven innings on the mound, Cueto had a whopping three hits behind him. Typical, the ace of the staff will matchup against the opposing teams ace, but to have such a horrifically low number of runs scored in support of any pitcher is enough to drive them up a wall.
