UC Bearcats Recruiting: Cincinnati Lands Three Ohio Recruits On Same Day

The Cincinnati Bearcats’ 2015 recruiting ballooned by over a third yesterday when UC received verbal commitments from Marquise Copeland, Bryce Jenkinson, and Braxton Neal. We’ll have more on these new Bearcats in the next day or so. But for the time being I just wanted to get you caught up on arguably the busiest non-National Signing Day in Cincinnati recruiting history.

Marquise Copeland

  • Position: Defensive End
  • Hometown: Bedford, OH
  • High School: Bedford
  • Height, Weight: 6’3″, 230 lbs
  • Offers: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, G5 Schools
  • Composite Rating: *** – 84
  • 247 Sports Rating: *** – 85
  • ESPN Rating: -
  • Rivals Rating: *** – 5.5
  • Scout Rating: ***

The defensive end from just outside of Cleveland, Ohio was the headliner of the day. With offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Louisville, among others, Robert Prunty really must have done one heck of a sell job to pluck Copeland away from them. It goes without saying that battles like these are why Tuberville put his best recruiter in the Cleveland area. Copeland is a speedy edge rusher who piled up 92 tackles and 6 sacks as a junior playing both defensive end and outside linebacker. However, it sounds like he will have his hand in the ground at Cincinnati.

Bryce Jenkinson

  • Position: Linebacker
  • Hometown: Greenville, OH
  • High School: Greenville Senior
  • Height, Weight: 6’1″, 220 lbs
  • Offers: Air Force, Navy, Yale, several MAC programs
  • Composite Rating: -
  • 247 Sports Rating: -
  • ESPN Rating: -
  • Rivals Rating: ** – 5.4
  • Scout Rating: -

Jenkinson is an Ohio player that Cincinnati has been tracking for a while and impressed the coaches when he camped at UC. The outside linebacker runs a 4.45-Forty and that, combined with his impressive measurables, must have really turned some heads in Clifton. As a member of the 2015 class he’ll be arriving on campus as the Bearcats graduate a boatload of seniors at the position. If he can continue to improve during camp, Jenkinson could see the field as a true freshman.

Braxton Neal

  • Position: Wide Receiver
  • Hometown: West Chester, OH
  • High School: Lakota West
  • Height, Weight: 6’4″, 168 lbs
  • Offers: Akron, Eastern Michigan, Ohio
  • Composite Rating: -
  • 247 Sports Rating: -
  • ESPN Rating: -
  • Rivals Rating: -
  • Scout Rating: -

Neal is the second prospect from the Cincinnati area to commit to UC, the first of which being Doug Bates from Moeller. He’s a lanky wide out who also played some corner for the Firebirds. On offense, Neal didn’t have a ton of production in 2013, posting just 9 receptions and 130 yards in 7 games. But that’s not outright awful for a Lakota West receiver. The leader actually only had 19 receptions for 249 yards last season in the Firebirds’ apparent run-heavy system. So I wouldn’t be concerned with his raw numbers, especially when he averaged 14.4 yards per catch as a junior, which is above the national average. Neal has the measurables to develop into a solid outside receiver for the Bearcats.
