Sean Kilpatrick, Justin Jackson Close Out 2014 NBA Summer League

Former Cincinnati Bearcats Sean Kilpatrick and Justin Jackson finished out their stints in the 2014 NBA Summer League over the weekend. Neither player advanced to the finals but gained a wealth of experience that should help them in the next step of their careers. Where will that be? Well it’s too early to tell but based on their respective performances over the last couple of weeks, we can do our best to surmise this answer.

In his first taste of professional basketball, Sean Kilpatrick more than showed he belonged. The UC star started about half of the Philadelphia 76ers’ Summer League games and averaged over 20 minutes and 11.5 points per outing. He also shot 44% from the field, up from his collegiate average, 31% from three, and was darn near perfect from the free throw line. Clearly Kilpatrick’s ability to elevate his game when transitioning to the next level is second to none. As he closed out his time in Las Vegas over the weekend, he did about all he could to earn a spot on the 76ers regular roster this fall.

Conversely, Justin Jackson had an up and down Summer League. Some might call it disappointing. Jackson played in just four games for the Charlotte Hornets and averaged just four minutes per outing. He recorded less than a point and rebound each game. I’m not sure if it’s a factor of Charlotte not giving him the opportunities or Jackson simply not taking advantage of them but it looks like he’ll have to head overseas if he wants a shot at playing professional basketball.
