Report: Arkansas DB Chris Murphy Transferring To Cincinnati

CBS Sports is reporting that Arkansas Razorback defensive back Chris Murphy is transferring to Cincinnati. He will join the Bearcats for fall camp on August 10th.

Murphy was a consensus mid-to-high 3-star recruit coming out of Lassiter High School in the 2014 class. He signed with Arkansas on February 5th of this year after enrolling early. But Murphy didn’t stick around in Fayetteville long. After participating in the Razorbacks’ spring practice, giving himself a leg up on the other freshman in his class, he abruptly left the program. The reason, presumably, was Arkansas’ logjam of cornerbacks ahead of him on the depth chart.

He won’t find a similar situation at Cincinnati, which is likely what has drawn Murphy’s attention.

According to the latest depth chart released today, the Bearcats’ starting cornerback unit includes seniors Howard Wilder and Adrian Witty, both of which will be gone after the upcoming season in which Chris Murphy will be sitting out anyways. By his sophomore (or redshirt freshman) year, the race for the top of the depth chart at corner will be up for grabs. After he sits out this season, Murphy could have as much as 4 years of eligibility remaining so he’ll have more than a fair chance of making or headlining the two deep at cornerback.
