Cincinnati Bearcats To Play In 2015 Barclays Center Classic
By Chris Bains
The Cincinnati Bearcats men’s basketball team will participate in the Barclays Center Classic early in their 2015-16 season. Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports was the first to announce the news.
Joining UC in Brooklyn will be the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Tennessee Volunteers, and George Washington Colonials, all fairly well known teams with at least decent NCAA Tournament histories. Games will be played on November 27th and 28th of next year. This announcement comes on the heels of a home-and-home the Bearcats will be wrapping up with the Cornhuskers in Lincoln this season. I guess Nebraska just can’t get away from Cincinnati that easily.
The tournament is a young one, aligning with the opening of the sparkling new basketball arena in Brooklyn, New York befitting of a Russian business mogul. This season Virginia, Rutgers, La Salle, and Vanderbilt will square off but the field next year seems much more intriguing. It’s unclear who the Bearcats will face first but Cincinnati will be guaranteed two games, advancing to play the winner or loser of the other pairing depending on how they do on day one.
