Former Bearcats Support Local Legends Shootout

On Saturday August 9th the 3rd Annual Local Legends Shootout was held in my hometown, Dayton, Ohio, at Dunbar High School. I have been privileged to work the event the last two years.  It’s cool seeing professional players both current and former play in Dayton. It is a very positive event where coaches and teachers in the inner city get honored for their contributions over the years.

For the Bearcat fans that didn’t attend you might want to keep this game on your radar next year. Cashmere Wright, Yancy Gates, Deonta Vaughn and Lance Jeter all played in the game. Jeter played football at UC and went on to transfer to Nebraska to play hoops (side note: just in case you question me mentioning Jeter).

They all played great, but Cash and Deonta put on a heck of scoring exhibition. Cash had around 30-35 points, hitting pull ups, countless lay ups with both hands, throwing oops and being active in the passing lanes. Vaughn showed he still has that great jumper as I don’t remember him missing up late in the 2nd half, he had around 25-30 points. Vaughn even got heckled by Daequan Cook from the bench that he doesn’t pass, which made everyone in the gym who could hear them talking crack up.

It was great seeing all of those former Bearcats in one gym having fun and supporting a good cause. Next year I plan on attending the event again and the organizers plan on inviting some Bearcats again, so make sure if you are interested in keeping up with the event that you hit me up!
