Injury Forces Braxton Miller To Miss Cincinnati Game, Season

As was reported last night, Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller re-injured his right throwing shoulder during the Buckeyes’ practice yesterday. As a result his 2014 Heisman and National Championship season was very much in jeopardy.

Now we’re learning, per ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, that Miller will in fact miss the entirety of the 2014 football season.

"Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller is out for the season after sustaining a right shoulder injury during Monday’s practice, a source told ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.Miller had an MRI on his throwing shoulder Tuesday morning, revealing the season-ending injury."

This is especially huge news for those in the Cincinnati circles.

When we took our first crack at breaking down the Buckeyes, I never thought that would be a mountain easily traversed by UC. Ohio State runs such a potent offensive system and is loaded along the defensive line. Urban Meyer has a National Championship team in the making in Columbus and Braxton Miller was the catalyst that ran everything smoothly.

But with his senior quarterback now sidelined, Meyer will have to turn to talented but very inexperience redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett, a dual-threat quarterback who’s apparently built in the same mold as Miller. Perhaps the biggest storyline as we head into this clash on September 27th is the fact that both supposed starters, Gunner Kiel and Barrett, will have just a handful of games under their belt between them when that day arrives. This despite the two hanging around college football for a good while now.

I’d be curious at this point which quarterback has a better grasp of their respective offenses. Considering Kiel has been running with the 1’s since December, my money’s on him. But that’s not saying Barrett can’t get up to speed quickly and be a menace for Cincinnati’s defense just like Miller would come late-September.

We’ll certainly know for certain in Ohio State’s three games leading up to UC.
