Bearcats Training Camp News & Notes – August 20th

After a successful scrimmage at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday and picture day on Monday, the Cincinnati Bearcats returned to their practice routine. According to the coaches, which you’ll get a hint of in the videos, the team is far behind their expectations. That’s nothing more than coach speak at this point. These people are harder to please than your dentist.

As such, I wouldn’t reach too much into their comments illustrating disappointment in the players. I’m sure the team as a whole is progressing just fine. Let’s get to some training camp notes.

  • All else equal, senior Hosey Williams and junior Tion Green are neck-and-neck for the starting runningback job. Eddie Gran seems to be continuously challenging both of them to step up. But things aren’t equal in Cincinnati’s training camp as Green appears to be nursing a shoulder injury. He could be the future but Hosey Williams might emerge as the front runner come the Toledo game.
  • The offense won on Sunday in the scrimmage but I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to extend their “lead” over the defense as training camp continues.
  • Apparently defensive end Brad Harrah has moved to tackle? Weird. That seems like a completely unnatural position for him. Hank Hughes and his defensive coaches know best, I suppose.

Now to the official training camp videos. First up is offensive coordinator Eddie Gran.

Then co-defensive coordinator Hank Hughes, who appears to the strong, silent type. This might be the shortest Tommy G interview of all time.

Finally, the equipment manager cam because evidently the Bearcats A/V team has ran out of things to put their miniature cameras on. Next up, the local squirrels at Higher Ground!
