Rams waive-injured Isaiah Pead after torn ACL

"With 17 carries for 75 yards and 14 catches for 94 yards, Pead hasn’t lived up to what the Rams hoped they’d be getting when they made him the 58th overall pick in the 2012 draft. He was highly regarded coming out of Cincinnati, though, so there may be another team willing to roll the dice on a player who is signed to his rookie contract through next season."

Can’t really blame the Rams here. They need players on their roster who are healthy enough to compete. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck any less for Pead. Hopefully he gets picked up elsewhere.

Sean Kilpatrick undergoes knee surgery, out 2-4 weeks

"The tear was actually discovered shortly after the end of UC’s 2013-14 season, but the decision was made to rehab the knee rather than have surgery. Kilpatrick skipped the NBA scouting combine in Chicago in May because of what he said then was a minor knee injury, but he played in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas for the Philadelphia 76ers."

Bob Diaco announces starting QB in strangest of ways

"“We do not have a key starter at the quarterback position. We have a starter and a key backup. And by the staff’s estimation, and it was negligible in all categories, Casey has improved his physical traits to try to catch up to the physical traits of Chandler Whitmer. Chandler is still better in those areas. In terms of just being a player and what that means, you would have to give the edge to Chandler Whitmer. In the intangible area – leading, communicating, mobilizing energy, creating unit power and team power over the course of time, Casey Cochran has edged out Chandler in that area. It’s an exceptional trait that Casey has and through Chandler’s work in his life and his maturity and his growth, he’s made that a negligible difference."

What in the Sam hell was he thinking?

Rags to riches

"It’s believed the Burfict deal has put the Bengals over the $133 million salary cap for 2014 and has begun to nibble at their $8 million carryover for 2015. But that won’t stop them from trying to extend three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green before the start of next season, they’ve said. They’ve already exercised their fifth-year option and are committed to pay Green $10.5 million in 2015."
