Bearcats In The NFL: 2014 Preseason Week 4 Update

The final week of the NFL’s 2014 preseason has come to a close as teams being the arduous process of reducing their roster from 75 to 53. It remains to be seen how many former Cincinnati players survive these cuts but for now let’s check in on their performances from the last tryout. In general, starters played a couple of series or less, so those Bearcats fighting for roster spots got quite a few reps to prove their worth.

John Hughes: Notched a pair of tackles for the Cleveland Browns in their win over the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.

George Winn: He’s had a nice preseason and finished strong. Winn ran the ball 12 times, the most of any Lion runningback, for 43 yards. His 3.6 yard per carry average was solid for the former UC back. I think it’s safe to say Winn has earned a spot on the roster but I’d be curious where he lands on Detroit’s depth chart.

Kevin Huber: Had a monster night for the Cincinnati Bengals, booting 6 punts for a 48.3 average. Three of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line and he had a long of 53. Golden toe at it again!

Travis Kelce: A relatively mediocre evening out of the Chiefs tight end after exploding onto the scene in the first three weeks. Kelce caught a single pass for 8 yards but it’s safe to say his roster spot is more than secure.

Brendon Kay: The Steelers quarterback got in during the final preseason game of the 2014 season and completed 5-of-10 passes for 32 yards, zero touchdowns or interceptions, and a 57.1 quarterback rating. Kay also took a trio of sacks.

Kenbrell Thompkins: The Patriots’ wide receiver had yet another solid outing, catching 5 passes on 6 targets for 46 yards. Hopefully he can stick around a little longer in New England this season if and when Rob Gronkowski comes back.

Adrien Robinson: The New York tight end was targeted twice on Thursday night, hauling in one of them for 16 yards.

Ricardo Mathews: Grabbed himself a pair of tackles in Houston’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.
