Cincinnati Bearcats Move Up To 37th In AP, Coaches Poll

For the second straight week the Cincinnati Bearcats have been sitting idle while every other team in college football kicked off their season. And for the second straight week, UC has moved up in the major polls.

The Bearcats rose two spots in the latest AP Poll to tie the West Virginia Mountaineers for 37th with six votes. Additionally, Cincinnati moved up three spots in the Coaches Poll, also to 37th, with eight votes. Again, a week of inactivity leaves me a bit surprised that UC made gains this past weekend. Right now, it really doesn’t mean much and in the long run these polls will become ever more farcical as the season wears on.

Even so, they’re unfortunately our best barometer of the strength of Cincinnati’s opponents on the schedule at the moment and give us our most consistent idea of where this Bearcats team ranks on a national level. As of this week, it’s just UC and Memphis showing up in either poll out of the AAC.
