Game Two Wasn’t As Good For Gunner Kiel

After the Bearcats first game I was singing the praises of Gunner Kiel just like everyone else and rightfully so, the man threw for over 400 yards and 6 touchdowns in his first collegiate game. I mean who expected to see that live? Even though it was against Toledo *not disrespecting Toledo* everyone thought what would Kiel do next?

Game two for Kiel was a little bit different, at moments he looked like Kiel from week one and at moments he looked like a guy who is only playing his second collegiate game. This is why we have to be patient with Kiel because it has been over two full years since he has played live football.  Miami of Ohio is a much improved team from last year and exposed some things the sophomore still needs to work on. I noticed he likes to lock on to his number one option on each play and leads the defensive backs to the ball, sometimes throwing into triple coverage. Kiel has a strong arm, but he will have to work on his eye manipulation or he may have more high interception games in the future.

Kiel finished the game 25 of 39 with 271 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Not a bad game at all, but his total could’ve been easily 3 or 4 as I remember a few Miami DBs dropping a few give me picks. I learned that teams that play Miami need to stay away from Quinten Rollins.

Nonetheless the Bearcats and Kiel will be alright as we won 31-24 to obtain the Victory Bell again, but as real fans we shouldn’t always expect a performance like the Toledo game.
