UC vs. UConn: Collaborative Predictions

Our team of self-proclaimed experts at Cincyontheprowl.com have put together their predictions for this weekend’s battle with the UConn Huskies.

Mike Jorgensen – Prediction: Cincinnati 31, UConn 13

I’d guess the temperature at kickoff will be right around 25 degrees.  We’re not a southern team, we’ve proven that we can play in the cold.  Be that as it may, passing gets harder.  Gunner had 3 INTs against ECU only one of which was truly his fault.  I think we will come out passing and try to grab an early lead but will want to move our focus to the running game pretty quickly to speed up the game.  For UConn the light should be fading from them as it is mathematically impossible for them to make it to a bowl but is possible that they would enjoy playing the role of spoiler.  Luckily they have another home game to dub senior day and a beatable opponent on that day.  I’d like to think if we grab a lead early then they will lay down but there are no guarantees.  This UConn team has talent for sure (they played a very competitive game at ECU) but I’d imagine most of their fans and coaches are looking to next year already.

Chris Bains – Prediction: Cincinnati 38, UConn 13

The UConn Huskies are terrible on offense, slightly better on defense, and in general a hodgepodge of warm bodies more so than football players forming the two-deep. With the way Cincinnati is playing on both sides of the ball, I don’t see any situation short of a Noreaster striking Storrs on Saturday preventing the Bearcats from emerging from The Rent with a sizable victory.

Ben Levin –  Prediction: Cincinnati 40, UConn 20

UC can’t take this UConn team lightly, as they have improved a ton over the course of the season, especially on offense.  This is not the same team that completed just six passes against USF in September.  That being said, the key to UConn being able to upset UCF was turnovers.  The Huskies have nowhere near the offensive firepower to hang with UC.  If the Bearcats can just be smart with the ball, this one should get ugly.  The emergence of the Mike Boone/Rod Moore duo should help UC control the ball and the clock if the Bearcats can build a lead.

Jesse Smith – Prediction: Cincinnati 38, UConn 17

Even though they upset UCF at Rentschler Field, UConn’s offense is down right terrible and with that being said an offensive power like UC will be able to outscore them at Rentschler Field. Last week proved the offensive could score in sub 30 degree weather so traveling east shouldn’t effect the Bearcats.
UConn did a better job controlling ECU than UC holding them to 31 points while UC gave up 46. So, UC will have to take care of the ball to ensure a victory on the road.
With that being said UC in a semi route.

Spencer Tuckerman – Prediction: Cincinnati 31, UConn 7

No way the Bearcats stop rolling now. Despite a win against UCF that was one of the biggest in the last few years of UConn football, the Huskies still have an anemic offense. The Bearcats have been improving against the run over the past few games, and they should be more than prepared to stifle one of the worst rushing attacks in the FBS. As far as the passing game goes, the Bearcats just withstood the ultimate test against ECU last week. Nothing UConn can throw at them will be a surprise.

The only thing that gives me pause is the weather and the fact that this one is on the road. Those two things could throw in a wrinkle, but I think UC ends up rolling in this one. Gunner impresses against a solid defense, the RBs turn in another good outing, and the Bearcats win 31-7.

There you have it! Optimism abounds with your Cincy on the Prowl staff with predictions averaging an outcome of 35.6 to 14 (I’ll be impressed if we can land the .6).  Lets hope we’re all right in our buoyancy!
