Cincinnati Bearcats 41, UConn Huskies 0: It Wasn’t Even That Close

The Cincinnati Bearcats strolled into Storrs, Connecticut like they were walking into an IHOP on a Sunday morning. I’m almost certain these players facing their bottomless pancakes* would have given them more of a challenge than anything the UConn Huskies could have offered up.

*I’m very hungry for pancakes.

UC made a 41 point shutout look easy tonight. And I mean easy. Cincinnati was up 27-0 at halftime having out gained the Huskies 248 yards to 9 at that point. The game was so lopsided that Jeff Luc and Nick Temple took it upon themselves to photobomb their head coach.

UConn only managed another 120 in the second half, primarily against Cincinnati’s second stringers who continued to stifle the Husky offensive “attack”. The UC rushing game also got going as Rod Moore and Mike Boone started reeling off runs of 5-6-7 yards or more. Cincinnati simply leaned on UConn at that point, who crumbled under the pressure of a superior opponent.

Unfortunately I can’t really put much more together about this game. Like against SMU, South Florida, and Tulane, the Bearcats exerted their dominance and thrashed an opponent that could barely step on the same field against them let alone make plays. This is the caliber of performance we’ve anticipated out of Cincinnati this season and the team is finally living up to those expectations. If UC can continue their near-perfect play on both sides of the ball, an AAC championship is all but in their grasp.

Cincinnati, now 5-1 in the conference, travels to Philadelphia next Saturday to face the Temple Owls at noon.
