Nippert Stadium Construction Update: December 3rd, 2014

The future newish home of Cincinnati Bearcats football, Nippert Stadium, continues to rise majestically into the sky with each passing day. Tom Gelehrter and project manager Bob Marton are back with an update on the construction progress.

Stray Observations

  • It’s amazing that a year ago workers broke ground on building the new press box. Remember those gigantic holes they dug in the ground to stabilize the foundation? Seems like only yesterday…
  • On Friday, the final steel beam will raised and set in place, finally completing this portion of the construction. There will be a ceremony that morning where attendees can sign the piece to commemorate this phase coming to a close.
  • Currently workers are laying down the roofing on the 500-level. It’s incredibly important that they finish this sooner rather than later because this floor will house the actual press box and the coaches boxes. So there’s quite a bit of wiring and electronics that will be in this level which can’t go in until it’s protected from the weather.
  • The platforms for the club level seats seem to be going in smoothly. It looks like the crew is focusing on that and general concrete work in and around the structure.
  • It’s all demos on the East Concourse as workers make room for the expanded walkways and new restrooms and concession stands.
