UC Announces Stripe The Stands Event Against Temple On January 17th

When the Cincinnati Bearcats return home from consecutive road trips to UConn and Memphis, they’ll face the AAC leading Temple on January 17th. And the school wants to greet the Owls with alternating red and black sections at a hopefully sold out Fifth Third Arena that Saturday evening.

Uhh, why weren’t they doing this years ago? It’s an amazing idea!

Some of the schools that consistently pull this off well are Missouri and Boise State in football. On the basketball side, North Carolina has done a nice job in the past. Done right (i.e. with full fan participation) this could look spectacular during this game that will be aired on national television.

I have full confidence in the student section pulling Stripe The Stands off.

They’re passionate, they’re smart, they want to make Fifth Third Arena as intimidating an environment as possible. But I don’t have the same faith in the several thousand people on either side of the court wearing the right color in the right section. UC will need to do something like like distributing t-shirts for every fan in the arena. That’s 13,176 shirts for 13,176 seats. Not an incredibly easy task for the cash strapped university unless Skyline Chili or Donatos fronts most of the bill.

Hopefully one of Cincinnati’s sponsors steps up so Stripe The Stands looks as incredible as possible on national TV. Nothing is worse than an arena where every fan isn’t 100% on board with the plan, thus creating blotchy areas in the stands.
