Every football program tries to distinguish itself from the hoards of other schools fighting for recruits. Handwritten letters are common practice, providing a personal touch between coaches and high school prospects. So too is throwing boatloads of swag at potential signees. Some have even gone so far as to Photoshop celebrities “hanging out” with recruits. Among the realms of the illegal, cars, girls, and cold hard cash have been rumored to have passed their way onto players.
For the Cincinnati Bearcats, Tommy Tuberville is always scraping and clawing for an edge. The shadow of the AAC has forced him and his coaches to get ever more creative in selling UC football on recruits. It seems they’re doing it by going straight for one of the few things 17 and 18 year olds care about, food.
Take Bearcats verbal Braxton Neal. He tweeted out a picture of what looks like an especially delicious cookie cake with red and black icing along with a C-Paw in the middle. Apparently this happens a lot when recruits visit Clifton.
Overall, it’s a smart move (who doesn’t like cookie cake?!) and hopefully gets some players like Neal to sign with UC on National Signing Day.
