Ty Linder Joins Bearcats Football Team As Special Teams Coach

The moving and shaking on the Cincinnati Bearcats’ coaching staff continues with the addition of Ty Linder as UC’s special teams coach, according to Tom Groeschen of the Enquirer.
Linder is from Austin, Texas and played for the Texas Tech Red Raiders out of high school. He was mainly a scout teamer during his time in Lubbock for head coach Mike Leach. Linder never actually played directly for Tommy Tuberville, he graduated two years prior to his arrival, but did serve under him as a graduate assistant in 2010.
After that season at Texas Tech, Linder opted for a change of scenery by heading up the road to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he worked with the special teams as a graduate assistant on Mike Gundy’s Cowboys staff. Two years later he made the transition to Gary Patterson’s staff at TCU in the same capacity.
Now it seems Tommy Tuberville has opted to hire Linder as Cincinnati’s next special teams coach. At this point in his career, I could see UC’s head coach stripping the “graduate assistant” title from Linder and giving him the official role. It’s a nice step in the right direction for him as he would get a solid pay bump and not have to get coffee for the other coaches in the middle of the night.
That’s just speculation but would be the logical move for Linder.
The next major question is what Tuberville does with current special teams coach Marc Nudelberg. My guess would be that he would give those duties over to Linder and focus on Cincinnati’s tight ends, which he worked with last season. Again, that’s more speculation on my part but makes at least an iota of sense.
