Construction is moving right along on the Nippert Stadium renovations and Tom Gelehrter and project manager Bob Marton have returned to provide us an update on the progress.
Stray Observations
- This update focused a bit more on the East concourse. It’s an easily overlooked aspect of the project, what with the hulking press box towering over just about everything on campus now. But that doesn’t make the renovations on the opposite side of the stadium any less important. New concession stands and restrooms along with an expanded concourse are all means to allow for a better fan experience. You don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to take advantage of the upgraded amenities at Nippert.
- Bob Marton is a glass man, coming through on his promise last time that this would be going into the press box area. It looks like the glass exterior on the club/200 level is complete and the crew has moved up to the 300 level.
- Workers are also putting the finishing touches on the club level seating, putting in the final concrete and aluminum castings on which the actual chair backs will sit.
- Major progress has been made on the interior of the press box, with individual rooms finally taking shape.
- “Bearcat Plaza”, as they’re calling it, is basically the same type of renovation occurring on the East side but just underneath the press box.
- So apparently the bridge from the new press box to the TUC (as pictured above) is happening. This wasn’t in the original designs but was rumored to be in the works. As with everything else with this project, the bridge fit seamlessly into the architecture of the campus.
