Cincinnati Bearcats Recruiting: Guard Evan Mallory Signs With UC

Offensive guard Evan Mallory has officially signed with the Cincinnati Bearcats for their 2015 recruiting class.

Here’s a snippet from his full recruiting profile.

OVERVIEW

Mallory played across the offensive line for his Brownsburg team before transferring to IMG Academy and excels in run blocking. He explodes quickly out of his stance, keeps his hands on the chest of the defender, and drives constantly with his legs. While Mallory has an intrinsic advantage because of his size now, it’s clear he’s well-coached on the fundamentals of the position. He is fairly agile when he’s being asked to pull and has decent enough speed to get upfield for blocks at the second level. However Mallory is a little on the inflexible side when it comes to pass protection. But that’s OK, the young man is built like a guard which is where he will wind up at the collegiate level.

OUTLOOK

While it’s a best practice to redshirt offensive linemen in their first year on campus, Evan Mallory might be the exception to the rule. He already has the measurables of a collegiate offensive guard with potentially room to grow. Plus Mallory will be training with some of the best coaches and players in high school. He’ll be tested in ways 99% of other players at his level won’t be. Finally, there will be massive turnover along the Bearcats’ offensive line after the upcoming season. So the deck is stacked in Mallory’s favor to start or at least see the field as a true freshman at Cincinnati.
