Jermaine Sanders Is Providing Important Senior Leadership

At the beginning of the season, we didn’t know what role Jermaine Sanders would play on this current team. He was always a solid rotation player during his first three years with the Bearcats. At the beginning of the season there was no reason to be neither happy nor sad Sanders was returning for his senior season.

With Sean Kilpatrick, Justin Jackson and Titus Rubles gone because their eligibility is all used up (sorry if I missed any other senior from last year) Sanders is now the elder statesmen on the team as the lone senior. His leadership and maturity has helped the Bearcats a lot especially in the last 6 games. During the last 6 games Sanders has been inserted into the starting lineup and during this insertion the Bearcats are 5-1. Larry Davis has made some moves we can all question, but the Sanders move is one we can’t complain about. It has worked out both ways honestly as it has seemed to help both parties (Sanders and Thomas) play more consistent.

During the 6 games Sanders has started his numbers have improved mightily, averaging 9.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, while shooting 52% from the field and 80% from the charity stripe. During his first start he scored a career high 16 points against Temple. It’s pretty cool seeing Sanders be effective because he even stated he likes coming off the bench because he can get a better feel for the game. This has been his best stretch as a Bearcat, he’s done the little things to help this team win, hustle plays, box out if you pay attention you will see Jermaine getting his hands dirty for the team and that’s what you need a senior to do.

Keep up the good play Jermaine!
