Nippert Stadium Renovation Construction Update: April 8th, 2015

Renovation work continues on Nippert Stadium as we inch towards the completion in August. We’re just a few months away and while most of the progress that has been made on the press box can’t be seen from the outside, luckily we have Tom Gelehrter and project manager Bob Marton, per us’, to walk us through the changes on the interior.

STRAY OBSERVATIONS

  • What you can see when you’re walking around Nippert now-a-days is mainly on the East Concourse. The new concessions are taking place, which will apparently have a second floor? Or perhaps Bob is just referring to the roof of each station. Regardless, construction is rolling along over that and I’m encouraged to see how it all shakes out.
  • Not only that but the renovated restrooms, and particularly the women’s restrooms, are taking shape. The one they are building into the Varsity Village parking garage (sorry, garage goers!) will actually be the largest in the stadium complex. You’re welcome, ladies!
  • Bearcat Plaza, the tweaked standing area behind the new press box, will have concrete poured into it this week.
  • Among the other changes made to the exterior (Ok there were more than I alluded to before) are new aluminum railings and of course glass, which should be completed in about two weeks. They’ll also be adding new lights to the structure.
  • Tile, painting, dry wall are the major projects the workers are focusing on now as they continue to develop the interior of the new press box. They’ll also begin painting this week.
