Vandy Receiver Jordan Cunningham Transfers To Cincinnati

Vanderbilt wide receiver, and former four-star recruit, Jordan Cunningham is transferring to the Cincinnati Bearcats, according to Tim Adams at Bearcat Journal.

You couldn’t have asked for a better situation to manifest itself for the Bearcats.

UC graduates every living sole that calls himself a wide receiver after this season. That includes Mekale McKay, Shaq Washington, Chris Moore, Johnny Holton, Max Morrison, Alex Chisum, and as well as Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The only player with significant experience* is Nate Cole.

*Note, phrase used as relatively as possible.

Cincinnati will be desperate for warm bodies to catch footballs thrown from Gunner Kiel, or whoever’s quarterbacking the Bearcats in 2016. Cole will certainly be at the top of the depth chart but it’s anyone’s guess as to who’s lining up next to him. Tshumbi Johnson and Jeremy Graves should have the inside track for a starting role that year. Plus, incoming freshman Khalil Lewis has a ton of upside.

But outside of that trio, there’s too many questions to keep track of at wide receiver in 2016.

In steps former four-star recruit Jordan Cunningham. He’ll sit out in the upcoming season, taking a redshirt, but will have three years to play three seasons for the Bearcats. Once he’s inserted in the lineup, Cunningham should see starting reps as a redshirt sophomore in 2016.

I can’t picture a scenario, sans injury, where Cunningham isn’t in the mix that season. His size and speed are ideal for the outside receiver position. At the very least he’ll push Johnson, Lewis, and Graves in practice, which will make the receiver corps as a whole better after the talent vacuum following the 2015 season.
