Ralph David Abernathy Officially A Tennessee Volunteer

And the Ralph David Abernathy saga has come to an end, at least in terms of UC fans. The former Bearcats running back has been officially added to the Tennessee Volunteers’ football team. 247 Sports is reporting it and he’s even listed on UT’s official roster.

Ralph David Abernathy Tennessee Volunteers.

See? There he is!

Abernathy announced he was transferring from UC following the 2014 season that saw him touch the football just four times. Even when Hosey Williams and Tion Green went down with injuries, the coaching staff opted to go with Rod Moore and Mike Boone. Heck, they even put in fifth stringer Brad Banschenbach before Abernathy during the USF blowout.

But it was likely Tuberville and crew already knew the endearing back’s days as a Bearcat were done.

RDA IV made it official in November that he was Volunteer-bound. It was the perfect fit for Abernathy, a graduate transfer who was able to avoid sitting out a season and seeing the field right away in Knoxville. Plus Tennessee’s current head coach Butch Jones was Cincinnati’s big man when the running back signed with the Bearcats. His recruiter during that time John Jancek is also the Vols’ defensive coordinator.

On top of that, Abernathy will be able to play with his younger brother Micah for a season, which may or may not* have been a deciding factor in the four-star defensive back signing with Tennessee. The Vols get a pair of brothers for a feel good story throughout 2015 as well as one of the most talented DBs in the last class. It’s a win-win for Tennessee, that’s for sure.

*It definitely was.

So we close the book on Ralph David Abernathy. As always, we wish him the best of luck at Tennessee. Hopefully this change of scenery and a return to the coach he originally pledged to play for will allow him to finish his career on a high note.
