Nippert Stadium Construction Update: June 24

It’s been an exciting week on the construction front, as UC released detailed plans to renovate Fifth-Third Arena following the upcoming basketball season.  Now, the UC Athletic Department has released the latest edition Nippert Stadium Hardhat Wednesday, detailing the progress made over the last few weeks.

Here are the details:

  • LED Ribbon Boards are up, stretching from one 20-yard line to the other on both sides of the stadium.
  • Stairs to connect the East side upper deck to the new walkway and bridges are going in.  There will also be stairs that lead from the upper deck down to the main concourse.
  • New concession stands and being sealed and primed in preparation for installation of the metal shells on those buildings.
  • Let there be light!  As electrical work continues, the lights on top of the new West side structure are operational.  The new West side lighting produces about the same brightness as all of the stadiums old lights put together, so Nippert will shine brighter than ever come September.  The Sept. 12 game has been announced as a night game (8:00 kick on ESPN News), and the new lights should make everything look great in High Definition.  The new lights on the East side should be operational in the next few weeks.
  • Interior plumbing and electrical work is making significant progress on the West side.
  • The entire lower bowl will be outfitted with plastic seat covers in the coming weeks, which will be a huge upgrade in comfort over the metal bleachers.
