Defensive End Carlos Basham Picks Wake Forest Over Cincinnati

Three-star defensive end Carlos Basham from Roanoke, Virginia has spurned Cincinnati, Pitt, and Maryland in favor of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

In truth, Basham may have not had the Bearcats in his top three come his decision this evening. He was considering Cincinnati over the weekend but evidently cut UC today. That left only two ACC schools and wannabe Big Ten school to get Basham’s services.

Recruits can cut their lists so capriciously like that. Heck, Charlotte 49ers transfer Ebuka Izundu removed UC from his top two just hours before his announcement. This despite Mick Cronin travelling all the way to Atlanta to see him play. But that’s the way it goes sometimes in the world of recruiting.

Back to the defensive end position at UC, missing out on Basham is definitely a hit. 6’4″ 240 lbs edge rushers who consider Cincinnati don’t come around every day. But there will be others. With a recruiter like Robert Prunty there always are. Plus with six freshman defensive ends on the roster, this position wasn’t exactly screaming for depth. Cincinnati could conceivably not add a single edge rusher in the 2016 class and probably be fine.

They will, though, but reserve scholarships for only the best ones (i.e. Carlos Basham). So you can expect the next defensive end to commit to Cincinnati to have a sparkling resume.
