Jordan Cunningham Isn’t Transferring To UC After All

What was rumored for a little while now but wasn’t made fully public until yesterday appears to be true, that former Vanderbilt wide receiver and four star recruit Jordan Cunningham isn’t transferring to Cincinnati. Turns out he’s heading to North Carolina.

In early May, Cunningham announced he would be leaving Vanderbilt and head a few hours up North to join the Cincinnati Bearcats. The news was met with cheers and relief from UC fans. After all, the Bearcats will be replacing six receivers after this upcoming season and it wasn’t like they were bringing in any ol’ pass catcher. Cunningham caught 162 passes for over 2,600 yards and 28 touchdowns coming out of high school. While he didn’t make an immediate impact with the Commodores, catching just a handful of passes for a couple hundred yards in two season, the talent was clearly there.

But he won’t be bringing those skills to the Bearcats, instead heading East to North Carolina.

Thankfully for UC, Tommy Tuberville and his coaches, ever the long term strategists, were more than prepared to make up for Cunningham. They brought in former US Army All-American Jamil Kamara on Tuesday and secured a commitment from LSU transfer Avery Peterson, younger brother of Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.

A trio of four star receivers is certainly better than two, especially considering what Cincinnati loses at the receiver position after 2015, but at the end of the day I’d say the Bearcats came out ahead.

Best of luck to you, Jordan at North Carolina! Would have really loved to see you in red and black.
