UC Bearcats Head Coach Tommy Tuberville Highest Paid Group Of 5 Coach

USA Today released their annual list ranking college football head coaches by salaries, just to further emphasize how much richer they are than you or I. Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Tommy Tuberville is particularly well off.

UC is paying him $2.2 million per season, which is the most among Group of Five coaches and 50th highest overall. Say what you will about Cincinnati’s chances of breaking into the Power Five by way of a lifeline from the Big 12 or ACC, the Bearcats are committed to ensuring they can pay for the best even if they’re stuck with the rest.

Tuberville is even making more than the following ten (10!!!) Power Five coaches:

  • Darrell Hazell (Purdue)
  • Randy Edsall (Maryland)
  • David Cutcliffe (Duke)
  • Mike MacIntyre (Colorado)
  • Sonny Dykes (California)
  • Larry Fedora (North Carolina)
  • Kevin Wilson (Indiana)
  • Scott Shafer (Syracuse)
  • Kyle Flood (Rutgers)
  • Bill Cubit (Illinois)

I should point out that USA Today lists Brian Kelly’s salary at $1.1 million, half that of Tuberville’s and 68th overall. That’s some funky Irish accounting if I’ve ever seen it. If Kelly is pulling down $1 million checks a year, I’m growing a third arm out of the back of my neck.

I am not.

But back to Cincinnati, the fact that Tuberville makes more than one-sixth of the coaches in Power Five conferences proves UC’s spending power. The Bearcats might not be shelling out the equivalent funds for a head coach as it would be to buy a small country like Alabama and Michigan but they can pay a pretty penny like several major programs.

If anything it’s just another feather in Cincinnati’s cap should the conference realignment carousel kick off again.
