Bearcats Basketball: Making Bold, Overarching Assumptions After UC’s Win Over Grand Valley State

The Cincinnati Bearcats whalloped the Grand Valley State Lakers tonight 93-63 tonight. Let’s make some bold, overarching assumptions about this UC team after just one game of live play.

  • Now that they’re 1-0 and that game totally counted towards their overall record, Cincinnati’s going to win every damn game this year and by 30 points per. Obviously. For reals.
  • UC averaged 93 points tonight and shot almost 54% from the field, making over one of every two shots from the field. That’ll clearly keep up over the course of the season and games that truly count towards their overall record.
  • Shaq Thomas and Farad Cobb led the Bearcats with 18 points and 15, respectively. They’ll likely be integral parts of the lineup this season (not sarcasm).
  • True Freshman Jacob Evans was the first UC player off the bench, replacing Shaq Thomas at about the 5 minute mark in the first half. He wound up with 12 points, shooting 75% from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the stripe. No lie, he clearly looks like the real deal from tonight’s performance.
  • Interesting Tre Scott was a +14 tonight while Quadri Moore was a +5, while the somewhat more experienced big man collected three fouls to his freshman counterpart’s one. Scott clearly won the battle at the four tonight but we’ll see how that translate to the regular season.
  • Sensational sophomore Gary Clark didn’t record a point tonight but led the Bearats in 10 defensive rebounds. I’ll take that split any day of the week.
  • Troy Caupain was aggressive early, hitting eight of Cincinnati’s 10 points, but experienced a sharp drop off from there,  hitting four more for the rest of the evening. He’s a terrific game manager but to take the next step as a point guard he’ll have to develop that tenacity from the point guard position that Justin Jenifer apparently already possesses.
